Vacationing In Hawaii on a Budget

A vacation to the United States most sought after destination can be overwhelming for the average person, and for the average budget.  Many people believe that a vacation in Hawaii is far out of reach for average income individuals, couples, or families.  While food and accommodations will be the largest expense, there are a few things you might be able to do to keep your vacation within a tight budget.

Food and accommodations will be the largest expense for your trip to Hawaii.  However, it is possible to keep these costs to a minimum if you are willing to do a little extra work and make some compromises.  When people think of Hawaii, they might visualize the beautiful beachfront hotel, with 5-star accommodations, room service, massage service, and the fluffy white robes you get to wear.  Be willing to book a cheaper hotel or condo for the sake of cost.  To be honest, you won’t be spending much time there.  The room is used for sleeping and showering.  The majority of your time will be spent outside enjoying the beautiful sun and beaches.  A room or unit with a kitchenette would also save you loads of money on your trip.  If you or your family is willing to do some grocery shopping and cooking, you will save tons on restaurants and eating out.  Have food handy to cook breakfast before you leave for the day, pack a lunch and snacks to prepare you for daily activities, and plan a simple dinner if you choose. Some families choose to plan their meals for the day and eat out at a restaurant for dinner.  Either way you choose to do it, you will be saving valuable dollars by eating in.

Activities can be a large expense while on vacation in an area like Hawaii.  There are many, many people who want to take you out on tours and excursions.  While these companies offer wonderful services, they come at quite an expense. With a little research it is possible to have these same experiences without the cost.  Try to research the good beaches, the best hiking trails, or the best low cost activities.  Snorkeling is an excellent example of a low cost activity that could easily fill a day or a week.  Hawaii has some beautiful water and reefs that can be explored for minimum cost when you rent a snorkel set.  Hawaii also has beautiful landscapes and wilderness that can provide hours of hiking at no cost to you.  Take the time to research the activities you are interested in, this early planning will save you time and money once you get there.

It is possible to visit Hawaii on any budget.  Be willing to think outside the box and research the locations you will be visiting.  Hawaii will provide you and your family with memories and experiences that will last a lifetime, even if those memories didn’t cost you much to make.
