Hammock Tips

-Read all set up and safety guidelines provided by the manufacturer carefully before using your hammock.

-When hanging your hammock, follow all manufacturer guidelines.

-Small children need to be supervised by an adult when using the hammock.

-Store your hammock during times of inclement weather (including extended periods of harsh sunlight) to prevent premature damage or fading.

-When installing poles for hanging your hammock, dig at least 1.5 feet and secure poles with concrete for additional strength and support.

-Trees are a great natural source for hanging hammocks.  Be sure the trees chosen are the proper distance apart (according to manufacturer guidelines), and strong enough to support the weight of the occupants.

-If your hammock is snagged by clothing, shoes, or pets mend the snag as soon as possible to prevent further damage.

Cleaning Hammocks with Spreader Bars

Hammocks with spreader bars must be hand cleaned.  Be careful to keep the wooden spreader bars as dry as possible to prevent damage to the wood.  Find a large, flat area that has been swept and cleaned.  Lay the hammock out flat.  Fill a bucket with cool water and mild soap, using a soft brush or sponge to gently scrub the hammock clean.  Repeat the process with the other side of the hammock.  Hang the hammock to dry completely.  Do not use the hammock while it dries to prevent stretching of the ropes.  After drying thoroughly, continue use or store in the off season.

Follow the directions for hand washing hammocks as mentioned above.

Hammock Storage

Hammocks need to be stored properly in the off season, extended periods of time when the hammock is not being used, and during periods of harsh weather (including intense sunlight that may cause premature fading). We suggest cleaning your hammock and allowing it to dry completely before storing it for the off season or for an extended period of time.  If available, store your hammock in a hammock bag (breathable storage bag specifically designed for hammocks), or another form of breathable storage bag.  Do not store your hammock in an airtight or plastic storage bag.  This could cause rotting of the fibers of your hammock.  If a storage bag is not available, find a cool, dry place to store the hammock.  You can fold the hammock in a sheet or towel before storing.  Some may prefer to hang the hammock in a garage or other storage area away from moisture and dirt.  Protect your investment by storing and caring for your hammock properly.  Plan on storing your hammock when it is not in use to ensure a longer lifespan and guaranteed relaxation for years to come.
